County Manager Presents 2017-18 Proposed Budget
Commissioners schedule follow-up budget meeting
County Manager Denise Stinagle presented the proposed 2017-2018 Fiscal Year Budget Monday night to county commissioners. The budget totals $101,885,689. This budget does reflect a proposed increase of the property tax rate to .76 cents for every $100 of property value. This keeps Wilson County revenues neutral based upon the 2016 revaluation to maintain vital and quality services to our citizenry.
“Our Commissioners value fiscal responsibility and I take that seriously,” said Denise Stinagle, County Manager. “In preparing this budget we looked at several avenues to a balanced budget without proposing a tax rate increase and without impacting services. This was extremely difficult given the decreased values.”
“Our departments did an amazing job of realizing $974,000 in savings last year,” said Ron Hunt, Assistant County Manager. “Our staff have a strong history of spending responsibly as well as under spending. Regardless of the final budget that is passed, sound fiscal practices will continue along with our unwavering commitment to citizens.”
Monday night was the first step of many to develop and pass a balanced budget. Next Steps: Commissioners will continue to review the budget on May 25, 2017 at 6pm @ the Wilson County Gov government center, 2201 Miller Road. A public hearing is set for June 6 at 7pm at the Wilson County Ag Center.
