Wilson, NC – Aug. 25, 2017 — AT&T, which connects people through technology, is helping
Dee’s House connects youth to a positive educational environment.

John Lyon, AT&T Regional Director of External Affairs, was joined by Congressman G. K.
Butterfield in presenting a $1,000 contribution to Dee’s House recently.
“Due to inequities in resources and opportunities, too many young people begin their
educational journey already at a disadvantage compared to their peers,” said Congressman
Butterfield. “That is why Dee’s House is such a vital part of our community. Dee’s House has a
long record of providing the young people in Wilson with the tools and skills needed to graduate
and achieve success. I thank Dee’s House, the staff, and the volunteers who remain committed
to uplifting Wilson’s youth year after year.”

Established in 2009, Dee’s House focuses on two primary initiatives.

  • Dee’s Kids is a pre-K program which prepares preschoolers for a smooth transition to
kindergarten by developing their skills, enriching their minds, and enhancing their spirits.
  • Dee’s Boyz supports males ages 8 to 24 through mentoring, tutoring, job search, and job
    training skills.

“It is very difficult to succeed in the race of life when you begin a step behind,” said YoLanda
Davis, Executive Director of Dee’s House.

“It is our desire to close this gap with our
programming, putting our youth on equal footing with their peers. We appreciate the support of
the community and of leaders like Congressman Butterfield, who is such a strong advocate for
our work and for our young people.”
She said the AT&T contribution would be used to support ongoing program, such as the
successful Saturday Scholars initiative, which provides tutoring to assist students in passing and
excelling at End of Grade (EOG) testing.
“AT&T is extremely pleased to help support Dee’s House,” said John Lyon, AT&T regional
director of external affairs. “We believe all children can succeed and that education is the key to
a person’s future. We appreciate the opportunity to assist Dee’s House in helping to make a
lasting difference in the lives of these young people in Wilson.”
