The Upper Coastal Plain Business Development Center, located downtown Wilson at 121 Nash Street W. would like to celebrate the contribution of those home-based businesses that also contribute to the fabric that is Wilson, NC on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 11:30 to 2 p.m. as part of the Wilson Chamber of Commerce Partner’s Showcase during National Small Business Week. We hope that home-based small business owners will come out, enjoy a free networking lunch and learn about all of the low-to-no cost community business development services available locally and on a statewide level to help small businesses grow.

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) recently reported that Wilson, NC, about 40 miles east of Raleigh with a population of nearly 50,000, was “ranked No. 6 among the top 10 small cities to start a business, according to personal-finance website WalletHub. Rankings were determined by business environment factors such as length of work week, average growth in number of small businesses, number of startups per capita and average revenue as well as access to resources and business costs. The article states that more than 1,200 small-sized cities were compared for the rankings”.
The City of Wilson, North Carolina, a 1 gigabit city since 2015, has 21st century technology infrastructure making it very desirable for entrepreneurs. It continues to grow in business, innovation, economic development, and tourism.
One of Wilson’s many assets include our “invisible businesses” or better known as “home-based” businesses. Some businesses are created as a self-employment opportunity from an unemployment situation, as a preference or as a new business not yet ready or able to afford all of the expenses associated with starting a small business. Come out for lunch, let the community know about your services and be celebrated for your impact to the community.
